Elbow Park Beautification

Last Updated: November 18, 2005

The Elbow Park Residents Association (EPRA) has undertaken a plan to renovate and beautify Elbow Park.

This initiative started with the Elbow Drive Streetscape Plan. It became apparent that this renovation should extend to all of Elbow Park.

Elbow Drive Beautification - A Success Story

The Elbow Drive Beautification consists of enhanced streetlamps, bollards, medians with planted trees. These features have given Elbow Drive a significantly ehnanced residential feel. More pedestrians, bicyclists, roller bladers are using the new widened pathway along the river. Woods Park Playground is being used again.

Traffic speeds have slowed somewhat with the new 40 km/hr zone and the narrower travel lanes.

There are still opportunities to donate to install the last few streetlamps along this beautiful strip of roadway.

You may purchase a streetlamp or simply donate to the beautification plan. See the column to the right to download a donation form.

Beautification inside Elbow Park

Inside Elbow Park many trees have been planted throughout the community and decorative bollards were installed on curb extensions - the same design as along Elbow Drive. Traffic circles were constructed with a pattern concrete and a grey/white colour scheme. The internal beautification features were funded through an enhancement fund that the city provides all communities undergoing traffic projects. Ten percent of the basic cost of the construction can be used to choose upgraded features.

An enhanced entrance to River Park at 38 Ave would be a wonderful addition to our community and something we could share with South Calgary. We would love to have a community member step forward to spearhead this project.
