Demographic Charts for Elbow Park, based on 2001 statistics, were
presented. The results show that
the average age within our community closely duplicates that of suburban areas
such as Shawnessy. These demographics
are used for presentations to Council.

include skating at Olympic Plaza.
Carrie will email more details.
Outdoor Pools
A report has been prepared for Council recommending different ideas on
how to best operate the outdoor pools.
The committee would like to present this report to the EPRA before
taking it to the March Council meeting.
A coalition of 8 pools has been formed and they are asking for $9m to
upgrade and operate the pools.
Capital received up front would provide interest income that they would
use for operating costs.
Talisman Centre currently operates the Stanley Park Pool.
Calgary Parks and Rec. will supply tents for the June 26th
celebration. Elbow Park was the
first community association in Calgary and the celebration would provide us
with a unique opportunity to highlight our community.
The hockey sub-committee met recently to discuss several options on the
Hockey Rinks. It was agreed that
these rinks are a very important part of our community and an agreement between
EP Minor Hockey and the EPRA would be beneficial to all parties.
Funding options:
á
Continue to
split casino proceeds with hockey but all ice costs would be taken off the top
before distributing any monies.
á
EP Minor
Hockey would not be required to pay for ice each year as the costs would have
been taken from the casino proceeds.
Questions:
Should community memberships be required for hockey players? Who will be responsible for collecting
the memberships? Can we build the
membership income into the dollars retained by the EPRA for rink operating
costs?
Suggestion:
A round table discussion needs to take place between the hockey
sub-committee and the EP Minor Hockey board to discuss these issues.
The next meeting will be held tomorrow at City Hall. The council will be voting on the
Glencoe Storm Sewer project. The
City will be asking for $1.5m to [1]complete
the project. Rideau Park Residents
have issued a press release regarding the project and the negative impact it
will have on their community.
