Stage 1 Implementation of Elbow Park Traffic Plan
Stage 1 of the Elbow Park Traffic Plan is almost
complete
The city has installed most of the measures for
Stage 1 of the Elbow Park Traffic
Plan.
Speed humps have been installed
on 38 Avenue, 6 & 7 Streets.
Three
traffic circles have been built at 36 Ave & 6 St, 7 Ave & 34 St, 7 Ave
& 32 St. The traffic circles are temporary constructions to be replaced with
permanent structures. The community will have the opportunity to put plants in
the traffic circles. The traffic circles will be made permanent next year if
they prove to be successful. So far the feedback on traffic circles and their
effectiveness has been very
positive.
One speed-cushion was built
on 36 Ave & 13 St. Unfortunately the design implemented is ineffective. This
is the first speed-cushion built in Canada. The City will undertake to redesign
the speed-cushion this winter and build a trial version where it can be tested
by Fire and Transit before building another one on city roads. We hope to have
the other speed-cushions installed next spring. The speed-cushions are required
on 36 Ave as it is a major response route for
Fire.
We hope to have 2 more speed
humps installed this fall - one on 13 St and one on 10 St. This depends on the
weather as the asphalt cannot be poured under 15°C.
