City Council Approves Glencoe Storm Sewer Upgrade
City Council decided to approve the expenditure of
an additional $1.5 million needed to proceed with the Glencoe Storm Sewer
Upgrade. In approving this expenditure they rejected the dry pond option for
Elbow Park once again.
Council also
approved an amendment submitted by Alderman Madeleine King "The City will
obtain pre- and post- construction surveys and vibration reports for all
potentially affected homes along the route of the storm sewer project (or
within a block of it) and will indemnify homeowners against all property damage
caused by the project."
The discussion
at Council was long and covered topics such as the need for the project, the
number of homes affected, the outfall issue, water quality, impacts of the dry
pond on recreation in Elbow Park and the need for improvements to the sanitary
sewer system.
The protection of homes
mandated by Council is in recognition of the historical nature of homes in
Elbow Park as well as the soil types in the river valley.
